Today was graduation day
from Robert High School, and five friends are hanging around in the gym getting
anxious to graduate. There is James, who
is smart and wants to become a game designer.
Arthur was not the smartest kid around because he barely passed high
school. However, Arthur was the nicest
kid in the school, which is why he is friends with this group. Tyler was a rich kid who just wanted to have
friends, and not follow in his father’s footsteps, so he attended a public
school rather than a private school.
Finally, the humorous one of the group is Frank, and he enlightens his
friends with silly remarks.
As they were sitting around, James says, “I am bored, and
we have two hours before graduation.”“Well we can play Risk,” says Frank.
“We do not have time for that game, it takes four hours to play,” glares James. Frank just laughs.
The friends sat down with a role-playing game called Monsters and Players, which they started a couple of weeks ago. “As you get into the dungeon, a man approaches you and asks for your identifications,” Frank says playing as the game master. An announcement comes on the loudspeaker, “This is your principal speaking letting everyone know that the graduation ceremony is a half an hour from now. Get your caps and gowns, and head over to the auditorium, and thank you.”
“Alright time to go to graduation,” says Arthur.
“Really, I thought we were getting ice cream,” Frank sarcastically remarks.
Everyone just laughs and heads toward the auditorium. During the ceremony, Arthur and James talk quietly to each other.
“We need to continue playing after the ceremony is over,” says Arthur. James nods.
“We are gathered here today to send these students off to college, and get careers to create a better world…,” says Principal Brown. The friends just look at him with boredom. After the ceremony, everyone throws their caps in the air with celebration. James, Frank, Arthur and Tyler gather together so they can go off and play some more of Monsters and Players.
“Let’s go to Arthur’s house to hang out and play some more,” replies Tyler.
“Time to go Tyler,” says his father as he walks to the group.
“I want to hang out with my friends because I am not going to have much time with them once college starts because I am going to be busy with my education.”
“I don’t care son; we have to go because we need to prepare you for college. You are going to a private college remember? Not a college to goof off at with your friends,” says Tyler’s father sophistically.
Tyler nods with sadness. “Cheer up, you can see us when you come back,” Arthur remarks.
The group waved him goodbye as they saw Tyler go away in a limousine. They never saw or heard from him again. A few months past, and Arthur, James and Frank were at Frank’s house hanging out playing more Monsters and Players. The game was never the same because they missed Tyler. In the middle of the game, they heard a loud noise in the basement. The group went downstairs to check. They did not see anything, but looked all over the basement, and Frank yelled to the group, “Hey come over here!” They came over, and in the middle of the floor it read, “look up.” They looked, and there was some kind of swirl that was blue floating above them; lightning was crashing inside this swirl.
“What the….,” confused James, Arthur, and Frank.
“Should we touch it?” reached Frank, and the other two pulled him away.
“We don’t know what it is,” replied James. As they huddled up together to talk about it, the swirl zapped them, and grabbed them through it. They started screaming as they fell to the ground.
They got up, and the friends were asking each other if they were ok. They all nodded, and looked around them to see a strange land.
“What is this place?” said Arthur. None of them knew, and they started to walk down this grassy field. “This does look familiar,” commented Frank. As they were walking slowly through the field, they heard a crack. They looked at each other and yelled as they fell through into a hole. “Well that was pleasant,” Frank said sarcastically. They heard voices coming to the hole, and they looked up to see some ugly looking creatures looking down on them. They were talking in some weird language.
“This sounds like our game,” James replies, scared. Everyone nodded as they were terrified.
The creatures are lowering a rope with a net to bring up the humans, and they look hungry. As soon as the rope was lowered, the creatures at the top were dying. They heard other sounds, and the creatures were being sliced.
Next time on RPG, there are other humans in this strange world, and tell James, Frank and Arthur what this strange place is. They learn that they are stuck here for good, and need to learn how to fight. The friends learn that they opened some kind of portal, and in order to do that they must have some kind of mystical powers, and need to learn how to unlock them. Great adventures lie ahead of them in RPG.
